Uttaran is a Hindi television show that broadcasts Monday through Friday at 10:00 PM IST on Colors channel. When it replaced Big Boss people thought, it might not be a very good serial. Later on with the advent of a story based on cast offs from a rich kid- Tapasya- to her maid’s daughter Ichcha; people started liking it a lot. It soon made its way to top ten television programs in India. The depiction of two kids, one rich another poor, acquired a place in every Indian TV viewer’s heart. The adorable poor girl who happily accepts everything, which is casted off from the rich counterpart, became very famous name in the Indian households as Ichki or Ichcha.
This is a character of a deprived, fatherless girl and about Uttaran (castoffs), which she receives from the rich girl. Soon she starts facing problems with the arrival of vile characters as Nani in the serial. In 2009, the serial took a big leap of 10 years and the children became young and competitor for common love interest. Consequences kept on happening in the melodrama and it led to increase in Television rating points. In 2010 and 2011, it had been in the top five most watched Television Series in India.
During the folding and unfolding of plots and sequences, the popularity kept on increasing for this show. It became so popular among the Hindi audience that it was dubbed in Tamil as well. In Tamil, this serial telecasts as Sindhu Bhairavi. This is also liked by the Tamil Audience and gaining good TRP there. Uttaran, the Hindi daily, has touched the TRP of 4 points only once in 2012 because many other new concepts have started at the same time including Saubhagyavati on Life OK. This serial has lost a lot of TRP because of this new serial on a recently launched Tele channel.
The serial has recently taken an 18 years leap again and now the protagonist of the serial has grown old enough and now the second generation kids have grown into young adults. This is a try to regain the lost TRP and get added viewers for the show. This leap forward includes many new characters and faces to the serial and the story moves ahead with more twists to the tale.
